Automation is everything when it comes to Enterprise Digital Rights Management. If organizations need to rely on employees to manually click and protect every sensitive file, they will not achieve the required adoption rates. The fact is that employees get busy or forget how to utilize the EDRM solution.
EDRM automation starts with connectivity to other enterprise systems that already ‘manage’ or ‘move’ files. For example, many files are downloaded from ECM solutions. Reports are downloaded and shared from ERP systems. And lots of files are shared via EFSS systems and discovered by DLP systems.
Look for solutions that have pre-built connectors for a wide variety of enterprise systems so that as documents are downloaded, discovered, or shared, they are automatically secured with persistent usage policies. Also look for solutions that have Policy Federation capabilities. Policy Federation leverages the access policies already defined and managed in other Enterprise systems and maps these to the robust, granular ‘rights’ policies within the EDRM solution, another key aspect to automation.
If over 50% of the sensitive documents created and flowing around and shared outside an organization can be automatically protected, that is a huge boost in the adoption rates and overall success of an EDRM deployment.
Prediction #1: The Need for File-Centric Security Is Greater Than Ever Before
Prediction #3: Open, Pure-Play EDRM Will Thrive
Prediction #4: Ease-of-Use Will Be Deemed Essential to Driving EDRM Adoption
Prediction #5: EDRM Will Play a Key Role in Protecting Data-at-Rest
